NASHVILLE, Tenn. – A new Nashville Digital Inclusion Fund was announced Tuesday by Mayor Karl Dean.

The fund was the result of a partnership between Google, Comcast, the Stephen Turner Family Foundation, Vanderbilt University Medical Center, Dell, The Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee and others.

It was set to begin with more than $400,000, and was designed to bridge the gaps between those who have easy access to the internet and digital devices and those who have no way to get online.

“I think it’s obvious that there is a digital divide and there are folks who have general access to computers, digital information and those who don’t,” said Mayor Karl Dean.

Dean and representatives from each partnering organization made the announcement at the Nashville Public Library. The fund would go as far as putting digital devices into homes that need them and provide affordable broadband access for Nashville citizens. Metro Government set aside $100,000 for the fund in its current fiscal year budget.
