Mayoral Race Heats Up Days Before Early Voting Begins

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The mayoral race mudslinging has started.

Just days before early voting begins in Nashville's runoff election for mayor, David Fox's campaign is trying to take the wind out of Megan Barry's sails as she racks up dozens of more endorsements.

The Fox campaign is accusing Barry of padding her resume.

Fox says Barry has "repeatedly" referred to herself as the principal of a company known as Barry and Associates.

Fox's campaign pointed to Barry's LinkedIn page and it being listed as her company under her Rotary Club registration.

Barry says she has never once referred to Barry and Associates during the campaign and the company's dates on her Linked In page are a mistake.

The entry has since been removed, but it originally said she was the "principal" of Barry and Associates from 2012 to the present.

"The people deserve to know if Megan Barry has intentionally padded her resume to mislead voters into believing that she has the chief executive experience needed to serve as the next mayor of Nashville," said Chris Turner, Fox's campaign manager.

The Fox campaign says it can't find any financial disclosures from the company.

Barry says that's because it hasn't generated money since 2003.

"It was a consulting company that I had that when I went out and did consulting work for multinational companies," Barry told reporters. "I had an entity that I had to get paid through and that was my company."

Barry said the company was in operation for three or four years prior to 2003.

She laughed it off, Tuesday as she announced dozens of new endorsements.

"When I left Premier, I updated my LinkedIn page to reflect the company that I used to have when I did ethics consulting," she said. "Quite frankly, I haven't looked at my LinkedIn page or paid a lot of attention since I started (running for mayor.)"

Barry took a swipe back at Fox.

"If my opponent's biggest concern is that I haven't updated my LinkedIn page, then that seems a little strange."

Barry's campaign continues to rack up endorsements.

Twenty-six sitting Metro Council members, along with newly elected and former members publicly endorsed her Tuesday afternoon.

The Fox campaign would not make David Fox available for an interview.
