GUTHRIE, Ky. – Kentucky State Police opened an investigation after a man was found dead in his home.
Officials said 79-year-old Amos Yoder was found dead Sunday morning in his home on Old Trenton Road, and his wife, 75-year-old Marjorie, was found severely injured.
They were found by family members who had stopped by to drop off food before a meal they had planned for noon.
Police say Yoder died of blunt force trauma and they are investigating his death as a homicide that started as a home invasion sometime Saturday night or early Sunday morning.
Marjorie was taken to Skyline Medical Center where she was listed in stable condition.
State police were on the scene for hours collecting evidence, and a crime scene unit was called in from Frankfort, Kentucky.
Authorities said Yoder was a respected elder in the Mennonite community. An autopsy was set for Monday in Louisville.
Officials said they had not determined the cause of death pending the autopsy.
No suspect information was available. Anyone with additional information was asked to contact Kentucky State Police.
The Kentucky State Police said they're being assisted by the Todd County Sheriff’s Department and the Todd County Coroners Office.
