NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — The speed limit in some Nashville neighborhoods will change from 30 mph to 25 mph after the legislation passed its third and final reading at Tuesday night's Metro Council meeting.
Walk Bike Nashville says lowering the speed limit could force people to slow down in Nashville neighborhoods and even save lives.

If a pedestrian is struck by a vehicle at 25 mph, that person has a 25% risk of serious or fatal injury. However, that risk jumps to 50% at 33 miles an hour.
Last year, a record-breaking 39 people were hit and killed while walking in Nashville. The city and local activists remembered them at a memorial over the weekend.
