Officials with the Metro Nashville Police Department have identified a homicide victim found in South Nashville Tuesday morning as 53-year-old James Edward Lytle.

Police say Lytle last lived in the 1900 block of Dickerson Pike.

Officials with the Metro Nashville Police Department began working the death investigation around 8:50 a.m. Tuesday when a driver spotted the body near the road.

The body was found near wood line near the intersection of Pebble Creek Drive and Edge O Lake Drive in Antioch. Police blocked the intersection while collecting evidence for more than seven hours.

Officers posted this tweet calling the incident a homicide Tuesday afternoon.

Officers said the body showed signs of physical trauma, but was not shot. Officers said they weren't sure when and where Lytle was killed.

"Based on what we've seen at the scene, it is likely he was killed elsewhere and dumped at Edge O Lake Drive and Pebble Creek Drive," said Don Aaron, Spokesman for the Metro Police Department.

Investigators said the homicide may have occurred overnight.  Detectives began researching the man’s history Tuesday and are still attempting to find relatives, friends and associates.

They have not yet released any information about a possible suspect.  Police asked anyone with information on Lytle or his murder to contact South Precinct Investigators at (615) 862-7926 or Crime Stoppers at 615-742-7463.
