An investigation has gotten underway after a worker was killed during an incident at a West Nashville freight yard.
Officers were called to the scene at YRC Freight Yard, located on Centennial Boulevard, just before 1:15 a.m. Tuesday.
Details of the incident were unclear at this time. Officials at the scene confirmed the person has died.
OSHA was called out to investigate and released the following statement:
Tennessee OHSA learned through media reports of a workplace fatality that occurred early Tuesday morning at the YRC Freight facility on Centennial Boulevard in West Nashville.
Agency management immediately notified an inspector and dispatched him to the scene. He arrived at 8:00 a.m. Tuesday morning to begin the fatality investigation.
Employers have eight hours to notify TOSHA of a workplace fatality. Since this incident was reported on local news and TOSHA responded within that eight hour timeframe, the employer is relieved of the reporting requirement.
TOSHA will conduct and complete and thorough investigation into this fatality. The agency typically surveys the scene, reviews company records and procedures, and conducts interviews during its investigations.
A fatality investigation can take between eight and ten weeks to complete. TOSHA does not release preliminary information before its investigations are completed. When the final report is submitted, the investigation is then open for public review.
