Metro Schools officials said they need $924 million next year.
School leaders officially presented their controversial budget plan to Mayor David Briley Wednesday morning.
They laid out their plans for next year, but they also had to answer how they ended up with a $7 million surprise shortfall this year.
Dr. Shawn Joseph also got some pushback from the mayor on his last-minute decision to cut the popular Reading Recovery program out of next year's budget.
Metro Council will get to ask questions next before they vote on the plan later this spring.
