Officials with Metro Water Services confirmed work on the K.R. Harrington Water Treatment Plant was complete.
The work was done, with the water system returning to normal, around 1:30 p.m. Sunday.
MWS had asked customers to reduce the amount of water they used for several hours Sunday as they performed the necessary maintenance and improvements to the treatment plant.
Those improvements required the plant to shut down for a 12-hour period, which began Saturday and 9:00 p.m. Provisions were made to use other water sources during the shutdown.
"Unfortunately, we are currently experiencing a higher than anticipated water use, placing strain on the system and resulting in low water pressure in the Hermitage area," said a spokeswoman in a press release.
MWS asked customers to eliminate non-essential tasks like car washing and irrigation until 1:30 p.m. Sunday in order to ensure there was water available for firefighting and other essential tasks.
Again, the work was completed by 1:30 p.m. Sunday with the water system returning to normal.
