NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — A Metro Public Works crew stumbled upon the body of a murder victim along Old Hickory Boulevard.
They found 33-year-old Matthew Hemmelgarn, of New Jersey, on the side of the road near the former Starwood Amphitheater property Thursday just before 8 a.m.
Hemmelgarn didn't have any identification on him, but detectives found a key to a room at a Royal Parkway hotel and were, in turn, able to confirm his name and the fact that he checked into that hotel last Sunday. He re-upped his room each day.
Police officials said Hemmelgarn traveled to the Hooter’s restaurant on Largo Drive Wednesday night. He left there at about 10:40 p.m. Detectives are working to determine where he went and what happened to him from there.
Anyone with information about Hemmelgarn, or anyone seeing him late Wednesday night, was asked to call Crime Stoppers at 615-742-7463. Reward money is available.
