Mid-State Shops Small For 'Small Business Saturday'

Mayors all around the Mid-State asked people to shop small to support their locally-owned neighborhood stores and restaurants.

At Red Caboose Park in Bellevue on Saturday, there was a one-stop shop setup for Nashville’s second annual Holiday Market for those looking to shop locally.

The handmade market was held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. It gave everyone the chance to find what they want in one place while helping their neighbors’ businesses grow and thrive.

In Springfield, the city celebrated with “Shop the Square” from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the historic courthouse square.

Around the same time, McMinnville shoppers enjoyed shops downtown while carolers and performers helped get them into the holiday spirit at the local theater.

The Downtown Renaissance District's Christmas Market also took place in Hopkinsville, Kentucky between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.

Nashville Mayor Megan Barry said she would be shopping across the city, and Clarksville's Mayor, Kim McMillan, officially proclaimed the day “Small Business Saturday.”

The push started in 2010 because a lot of big box stores really got people in the door for Black Friday, and then there was a lot of web traffic on Cyber Monday. Small Business Saturday was created as a means to give attention to those mom and pop shops.
