NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — Even though Litton and DuPont Hadley Middle Schools were opponents in a football game Thursday night, the two teams were united behind the same cause.
The players and students came together to support Jeff Davis, the former assistant principal at Litton who moved to DuPont Hadley this school year. Davis wasn't at Thursday's game; instead he was in St. Louis, recovering from surgery to remove a brain tumor.
"Jeff was at work and he experienced some weakness on his left side and he called his doctor, and she said get to the ER," Davis' wife, Cara said. "It's shock. It's disbelief. You think a million things could be wrong but not that."
Students, parents and fans at Thursday's game wore green to support Davis.
"He's always been a Marvel fan - loves The Hulk; so people would begin to text him and offer their support so he would text back, 'Hulk smash,'" Cara said. "It just took off from there, people have been wearing green in support."
Cheerleaders from both schools joined together to do a cheer for Davis. Cara said her husband would love the support.
"This is what touches Jeff's heart more than anything," she said.
Davis' family is hoping he will return to Nashville in a couple of weeks. Once he returns, he will start radiation treatment.
