The family of a father shot and killed at the Tony Sudekum public housing development said something more needs to be done to stop gun violence in the city.

Brandon Lee Jones, age 27, was shot multiple times including at least one to the head early Sunday morning before a neighbor found him dead about an hour later.

Officials with the Metro Nashville Police Department have been working a lead that Jones may have been involved in an argument earlier in the night.

As of Sunday night, a suspect has not been identified and arrested.

"You hear about things like this but you never think it can happen to you," Linda Etherly, the victim's mother, told NewsChannel 5. "I feel like someone ripped my heart out."

Etherly is the pastor at Temple of Praise Apostolic Faith and also has two other sons and a daughter.

She has asked for community leaders to step up more to fight gun violence in the city. The Tony Sudekum complex has seen its fair share of shootings and various crimes including a stabbing death last month.

"We need our young men to be respectful and honorable people," Etherly added. "Parents need to tell their children the do's and dont's and what life is really about."

Officials said Jones had an address at the housing complex, but were unsure if he lived there or not.

The family has set up a GoFundMe account to help with funeral expenses.

Anyone with information about the incident has been asked to call Crime Stoppers at 615-72-CRIME (615-742-7463).
