Mother Of Teen Shooting Victim Files Suit Against DCS

Posted

The mother of a teen killed in a shooting filed a lawsuit against Tennessee's Department of Children Services and three of its employees.

Jessica Barefield lost her 14-year-old son Tirell Hill in what police called a targeted shooting in June.

It happened on Phipps Drive in the Bordeaux area of Nashville. Hill had gone missing from his Antioch foster home about a month earlier. Witnesses told police the gunman got out of a Nissan Altima shot Hill then got back in the car and drove off.

Barefield, Hill's biological mother, filed the federal lawsuit on behalf of herself and Hill's two siblings.

The suit claims the state failed to find safe, stable and appropriate places for her son to stay.

No arrests have been made in the case.
