NASHVILLE, Tenn. – A man was critically injured Thursday night in a crash involving a motorcycle on Interstate 24.
The wreck happened in the westbound lanes of the interstate near the Hickory Hollow exit around 9:47 p.m.
Officials with Metro police said the man somehow lost control of the motorcycle and crashed into a wall. He was thrown from the bike. It was the only vehicle involved in the crash.
Westbound lanes were closed for several hours as a result of the incident. Investigators remained on scene working to piece together what exactly happened.
Police said they believe speed was a factor in the crash.
The wreck caused such a delay for commuters that many were seen turning around and driving the wrong way on the interstate.
The road reopened sometime around 1 a.m.
The victim was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center. His identity was not known.
