MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WTVF) — The newly-built "Bridge over Broad" in Murfreesboro has a new name.

It's now called "Blue Raider Bridge" in honor of Middle Tennessee State University, the school that gives Murfreesboro its unique identity.

The $22.8 million urban interchange connects Old Fort Parkway and Memorial Boulevard. It's also one of the gateways to reach the campus.

"It will be an iconic image for Murfreesboro. Kids will want their dad to drive across the bridge at night," said Rutherford County Mayor Bill Ketron during the dedication ceremony. "We want to make sure that every team, when they drive across that bridge, can that Blue Raider mojo, you know, be on our favor, right?"

Now that the bridge has a name, county leaders want to light it up.

Ketron is trying to get private funding to put those blue LED lights on the bridge, which will cost around $100,000.
