Police in Murfreesboro say a mid-state woman was taken for $3,000 after she unknowingly sought out a scammer waiting for a call.

Cindy Webb in Murfreesboro said she needed a loan, so she searched online for a company that would lend her $2,000. She said she was surprised when she called one who said she was approved for up to $8,000.

But that's when things started getting suspicious.

The person on the other end of the line asked for her bank account number and online password, which she handed over, and then they told her to pay for the loan using iTunes gift cards.

Before it was over, Cindy lost $3,000.

"If I ever catch you, I'm going to kick your butt myself!" Cindy said directly to the scammer or scammers at work.

Police said loan companies will never ask you to wire money or use GreenDot or iTunes cards to pay for your loan.
