A change to bathroom policy in Nashville businesses passed its first reading in Metro Council.
Businesses larger than 1,000 square feet must have men's and a women's restroom.
However, the proposal would allow businesses to have gender-neutral single-stall bathrooms.
Metro Council member Brett Withers of East Nashville sponsored the bill. He has called it a 'common sense’ bill.
