NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — While many businesses across the country are forced to close, others are using their jobs to help during the COVID-19, the novel coronavirus, outbreak.
G Catering in Nashville is used to weddings, galas, and large gatherings, but a pandemic was not on the list. Staff are using their tools and skills to help people who can't get to the stores.
"We have postponements, we had very few cancellations, everyone is being hopeful that they can reschedule at a later date; including weddings," said owner Guy Haskins. "We already had two weddings that have postponed their date and moved in July and September."
Right now, small businesses like restaurants and bars were ordered to shut down or reduce operation to minimize possible exposure.
The move is having a huge impact on the service and hospitality industries across the country.
As COVID-19 continues to spread across the globe, the need for help is spreading along with it. Many companies are offering delivery and carry out services to help out.
Haskins with G Catering is offering to prepare and deliver meals to people and their families who can't make it to the store or choose to stay inside for social distancing.
The idea started earlier this week. Haskins says it was the best thing to do for his employees and the public.
"As a business owner, I'm really concerned about how I can support 30 families, so I want to be able to keep those families going as well as I can and keep the business going too; so it's a double concern for me," he said.
They are taking orders and delivering meals everyday of the week. All meals are made fresh on site by staff.
"Grocery stores are kind of busy and a little bit empty, so this gives them an opportunity for a good meal, and they don't have to work that hard to do it," said Haskins.
Orders need to be placed by 12 p.m. the day before delivery.
