NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — Nashville Electric Service and Metro Water Services have offered to bring some relief to furloughed federal workers as the government shutdown continues.
NES said Thursday that it's extending customers' bill payment for 30 days if they’re impacted by the shutdown. Additionally, Metro Water officials said customers won’t face late fees or be disconnected for non-payment.
“No one’s livelihood should be leveraged to make a political point. Families shouldn’t have to worry about keeping the lights on or having water to drink as a result of such an unnecessary shutdown. I am very grateful to Metro Water and NES for agreeing to give furloughed federal workers the much-needed relief they deserve,” Nashville Mayor David Briley said in a statement.
Affected NES customers should call 615-736-6900 to speak to an advisor about payment options.
If you’re a Metro Water customer, you need to call 615-862-4600 or bring a photo ID and furlough paperwork to MWS Customer Services Center, located at 1700 Third Ave North. If the furloughed employee is not listed on the MWS account, proof of residency in the form of a marriage license or other utility bill may be required.
