A man was taken into custody after a baby was found unattended, surrounded by beer and drugs.
The incident happened around 3:15 p.m. Saturday when police responded to a call of a man lying on the ground, unable to move, in the 1100 block of Downs Boulevard in Franklin.
Reports stated officers found 23-year-old Kyle Shepard, of Nashville, on the ground outside.
Inside the home, authorities found a 9-month-old family member who had been in Shepard’s care.
According to reports, the baby was unattended and surrounded by beer cans and cocaine residue.
Shepard was charged with child neglect and possession of drug paraphernalia.
He was being held on a $6,000 bond with a court date set for 9 a.m. on September 26.
Officials confirmed the baby was given to the mother, and authorities from the Department of Children's Services have been investigating.
