NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — A Nashville man was killed early Monday morning in a two-vehicle crash on I-40 East near Old Hickory Boulevard.

Metro Nashville Police identified the driver as 26-year-old Kendreck Murry Jr.

The crash happened around 3:30 a.m. According to witnesses, Murry was driving a 2011 Hyundai Genesis at an extremely high rate of speed when he struck the back of a Peterbilt garbage truck.

The impact caused the garbage truck to overturn and Murry's vehicle to catch fire. Murry died at the scene. Police said no one else was seriously injured.

Investigators said speed on the part of the Hyundai appears to be a preliminary contributing factor in the crash.

Toxicology testing will also be conducted to determine whether impairment played a role.
