Two men were taken to area hospitals after being shot hours apart in the same part of Nashville.

The first victim was shot Tuesday night on University Court, while the second person was shot on 1st Avenue South.

Both were less than two miles away from popular nightlife spots in downtown Nashville.

The first incident happened shortly after 11:30 p.m. Officials with Metro Nashville Police said someone drove the male victim to Nashville General Hospital, where doctors discovered he had a non-life threatening gunshot wound behind his knee.

He said he was walking from the Z Mart on Lafayette Street to J.C. Napier Homes when a man tried to rob him. The victim ran away, and was shot by the suspect.

Shortly after 2 a.m., a man approached security at the Greyhound bus station and told them that he had been shot and needed help.

The victim stated he was on 1st Avenue South near Carroll Street when a subject jumped out and shot him. The victim waited nearly an hour to report the incident and couldn't give police a description of the gunman.

He was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center with a non-life threatening gunshot wound to the abdomen.

This wasn't the first violent night in that area. There have been 36 reports of crime in a half-mile radius of the Z-mart within the last seven days

On June 3, someone was shot on 1st Avenue South and ran to Z-mart with life-threatening injuries. Two days later, Metro detectives began investigating a deadly shooting behind the store on Lafayette Street.

Anyone with information should call Crime Stoppers at 615-74-CRIME.
