Two members of the California Highway Patrol and one member of the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department were shot on Wednesday morning, local authorities report.
Among the three members of law enforcement shot, Deputy Robert French, died on the way to the hospital. French was reportedly a member of the Sheriff's Department for 21 years.
The two troopers were expected to survive, as of Wednesday evening.
The incident was reported Wednesday morning in Sacramento, California after law enforcement responded to a call of a car theft at a hotel, the Sacramento Bee reported.
The Bee reported that two suspects, both women, then led law enforcers on a chase about 10:30 a.m. when the women were taken into custody.
Troopers and deputies returned to the hotel, and found a man in connection to the car thefts in a room. That man allegedly opened fire and escaped.
