WELD COUNTY, Colo. — A rescue operation is underway to save a cat that has been stuck on a Colorado water tower for at least four days.

LaSalle Police chief Carl Harvey said the first report about the cat on the LaSalle water tower came in Sunday afternoon.

"We normally give them two or three days to come down by themselves," Harvey said. "This cat has tried at least twice to come down, but didn't make it."

Harvey said because the cat has been without food or water for four days, officials are concerned the cat's health may be compromised.

"We don’t know why the little guy climbed up there, but now he can’t get down," resident Karen Gilden said.

Harvey said officials tried to find someone to rescue the cat, but two groups willing to try wanted $2,800 - $4,600.

"That's not an option," Harvey said.

Wednesday morning, a technical rescue team from Fort Collins agreed to help rescue the cat.
