Longaberger leaving iconic basket-shaped headquarters

Posted

The Longaberger Co. is emptying its biggest basket.

According to a report in the Columbus Dispatch, the Ohio-based basket company will abandon its iconic headquarters in "the coming weeks" for a more traditional office setting. Since 1997, Longaberger's headquarters has been located inside a 180,000-square-foot building shaped like one of the company's baskets.

The report indicates employees in the basket-shaped building will be moved to Longaberger's manufacturing facility located about 20 miles away, to unite the entire company under one roof.

According to Hoover's, Longaberger is the top manufacturer of handmade baskets in America.

It's unclear what will happen to the basket-shaped building. The Columbus Dispatch reports Longaberger is behind on its taxes and that the government could foreclose on the iconic structure soon.
