Oklahoma teacher attempting to marry 16-year-old student

Posted

A 34-year-old Oklahoma teacher is attempting to marry a 16-year-old male high school student, while law enforcement in Oklahoma is investigating the relationship, KFOR-TV reported.

According to KFOR, Cassandra Renae White has applied for a marriage license in Cleveland County, Oklahoma with the student on Dec. 13. The boy's father signed off on the marriage license.

According to Oklahoma state law, a 16-year-old can enter into a marriage with parental approval.

On Dec. 14, White was no longer employed by the Davis Public Schools.

"The District recently learned of allegations of an inappropriate relationship between a student and a teacher," Davis Public Schools said in a statement to KFOR. "The District is currently cooperating with law enforcement in the investigation of these allegations."

Davis Police told KFOR that it has been investigating the nature of their relationship even before last week's marriage license application.

"We started hearing rumors around the first of December of a possible inappropriate relationship between a teacher and student," Davis Police Chief Dan Cooper told KFOR.

No charges have been filed as of Monday.
