Man threatens to set University of Michigan student on fire unless she took off hijab, police say

University of Michigan police are investigating after a man allegedly threatened to set a University of Michigan student wearing a hijab on fire.

According to police, it happened between 5:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. 

Police say the man approached the student and demanded she remove her hijab or he would set her on fire with a lighter.

The woman removed the hijab and then left the area, police said.

According to police, the suspect was a white man, about 20-30 years old with average height, athletic build, bad body odor and an unkempt appearance. Police say he appeared to be intoxicated and slurring his speech.
