KIND, a US-based snack manufacturer, has issued a national recall on a "limited number" of KIND's Dark Chocolate Nuts & Sea Salt bars.
The company, sourced from a press release on their website, enacted the recall because they "did not specifically mention the inclusion of walnuts in the bar."
In March of this year, KIND removed walnuts from the ingredients. Unfortunately, a "limited number of bars with the old recipe (walnuts) were packaged into 12-count outer boxes that reflect the new recipe (without walnuts)."
Those boxes were distributed to customers.
LABELS AFFECTED:
- Dark Chocolate Nuts and Sea Salt (12-Count Box)
Lot Code: BK16264A1
Best Before Date: 12/20/2017 - Dark Chocolate Nuts and Sea Salt (12-Count Box)
Lot Code: BK16308A1
Best Before Date: 2/4/18
KIND says the bars are wrapped and identified as containing walnuts on each individual package but this designation isn't made clear on the outer boxes.
Only two boxes contained bars from the old recipe, but KIND says they take "quality and our community's safety very seriously." The company removed the boxes out of "an abundance of caution" and worked with the Food and Drug Administration to ensure the product was taken off shelves.
KIND says although the product was removed, those with no peanut or walnut allergies can safely consume the products. On the other hand, those with allergies or sensitivities to either nut should refrain from eating them.
The company apologized for the issues and advises customers with questions, in need of product replacements, or would like a refund, to call 1-855-884-5436, Option 1 Monday - Friday 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.
