Four people are dead, including the suspect, following a shooting spree near downtown Colorado Springs Saturday morning.

Matt Abshire, 21, said he was woken up by the sound of gunshots when he looked out the window and saw a "college-aged kid dead on the road."

Abshire said he followed the suspect west on Platte, who allegedly had multiple weapons including an assault-style rifle. That suspect then shot two other women, who died a short time later, an officer with the Colorado Springs Police Department confirms with Denver7.

The suspect was then chased by police when he shot at officers, police said. As many as four police officers fired back, hitting the suspect, according to El Paso County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Leslie Antunez. No officers were injured.

El Paso County Sheriff's office is now taking over the investigation in Colorado Springs, according to police. The officers involved in the shooting have been placed on routine administrative leave.
