Zika virus: What you need to know

An international outbreak of the Zika virus has sent people scrambling to learn more about this previously rare disease.

A small number of cases have been reported the United States but so little is known about Zika that it has prompted fear across the country. Death from Zika virus is very rare and the symptoms are often mild, with the notable exception of pregnant women infected with the virus, some of whom have experienced serious birth defects.
