NBA Star From Nashville Encourages Local Youth

Posted

Future basketball stars received a little encouragement on the court from a former NBA player with Nashville ties.

Dontae Jones hosted a free basketball camp at McGavock High School on Sunday.

Kids ages four to 16 had a chance to learn from the Nashville native and former Boston Celtic.

Jones has been a basketball director for the Nashville Youth Basketball Association.

He said it’s important to take time to give back to the community and encourage local kids.

“Just being hands on and actually being able to share my story physically versus someone else telling it is a big deal,” Jones said. “We are here in the flesh. Hard work pays off in reality, and I'm trying to share the message with our kids through basketball.”

The Nashville Youth Basketball Association has grown through the years to help more than 1,000 boys and girls across the city.
