NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — A church and school community affected by the coronavirus, Covenant School and Presbyterian church says members and some school staff and parents have tested positive for COVID-19.

The school held an event on March 7, the next Wednesday staff say they received a phone call that there was a case of COVID-19 positive from somebody who actually went to that event.

The doors to the church and school are locked and have been when the news came down that someone at the March 7 fundraiser event tested positive for COVID-19.

Lead Pastor Chad Scruggs says there are a lot of cases maybe somewhere around 20. He said this with a combined 2,000 church members, students and school staff.

The Head of Schools Dr. Katherine Koonce said those who were exposed immediately went into self-quarantine.

"We’re not sure if it was somebody who was in the venue before we were, or we if some of our people brought it in, we’re just not really sure," said Koonce. "We’ve been working with the Metro Nashville health department of course and their epidemiologist to try to determine the starting and all."

Church leaders say so far, those infected include church members, students, school staff and parents.

"If you think about that in terms of being multiple COVID cases in our little tiny community, it kind of makes you wonder what happened there you know," said Koonce.

Leaders say there are no hospitalizations and many who have tested positive are now recovering.
