HERMITAGE, Tenn. - Metro Police said a resident of Netherlands Drive noticed a strange pickup truck back into his neighbor's driveway. He then saw a group of thieves trying to steal a utility trailer.

That's when the neighbor drove his own truck to the scene and blocked the thieves' path so they couldn't leave.

The neighbor said he tried to hold all three suspects there until police arrived, but two of them, including a woman, took off running behind the shed, even after he fired a warning shot into the air.

The getaway driver, 40-year-old Marty Harris, stayed behind at the neighbor's orders.

"I told him you need to be still, keep your hands where I can see them and just stay until the police come," said the brave neighbor who didn't want to reveal his identity for protection.

Metro Police said when officers arrived they already knew who was the suspect and who was the brave citizen.

Harris allegedly admitted to detectives that he and his accomplices intended on stealing and selling the utility trailer to support a heroine habit.

Harris faced charges of felony attempted theft and misdemeanor vandalism.
