Nephew Charged With Trying To Kill Uncle

Posted

A man’s nephew has been arrested for allegedly attempting to kill him.

The crime happened Friday outside the victim’s house on North 16th Street.

Authorities said the victim, identified as Daniel Coons, heard a noise outside and encountered his nephew, 19-year-old Jeffrey Stevens, wearing a ski mask.

His nephew reportedly hit him in the head instantly with what the victim thought was a pistol.

The nephew then reportedly pointed a gun at Coons’ chest, and while Coons fought back, the gun fired and hit his hand and thigh.

Coons was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center and named his nephew as the shooter.

He stated Stevens was demanding money. The suspect was found by police, and he was armed. He also reportedly admitted to shooting his uncle and demanding cash.

He has been charged with attempted criminal homicide.
