Plans for a new veterans memorial in Cheatham County have moved forward thanks to support from the community.

The Veterans Memorial of Pleasant View will be located at Pleasant View Community Park.  It will be the first and only veterans memorial in Cheatham County.

“It’s exciting for Pleasant View,” said George Leasure, a Pleasant View Alderman and U.S. Navy Veteran.  “It tells people we support our veterans.”

Leasure, and the North Cheathan Civitan Club have helped organize efforts to make the memorial a reality.  It’s the brainchild of Pleasant View resident and U.S. Army veteran John Mueller.

“I said to my wife, we need something like this,” said Mueller.  “We need to come up with something that will be in our community, and it will be here forever.”

The square-shaped memorial will feature four spaces for brick pavers engraved with names of veterans.  Leasure said the memorial will feature the names of veterans from across the country and all branches of the military.  There will also be a granite monument in the center, and the names of the two Pleasant View resident who died in battle will be featured.  There will be benches surrounding the memorial.

Leasure said it’s exciting to see the project taking shape, and he can’t wait to see the finished product.

“I think when the day comes it will be a proud moment, not just for me as a veteran, but for all the veterans who are represented here.”

For more information on purchasing a brick paver, you can contact George Leasure at (615) 448-7780.

The Veterans Memorial of Pleasant View will be dedicated on Veterans Day, Nov. 11.  Organizers said everything is on track to meet that deadline.
