Government shutdown: Parks Service employees remain furloughed, some protest

As President Donald Trump and congressional Democrats spar over funding, a partial federal shutdown has forced thousands of government employees into furlough. Among the agencies hit hardest by the shutdown is the National Parks Service, which maintains dozens of natural landmarks across the country — including the National Mall. With many employees unable to work, the Mall has become littered with trash, despite being just steps from the Capitol Building and the White House, where the country's leaders continue to fight over funding.
