NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — Books open entire worlds for our children, but so many here in Nashville don't have access to them at home. That's why NewsChannel 5 along with the Scripps Howard Foundation has raised tens of thousands of dollars over the last several years as part of our "If You Give A Child A Book" campaign.
On Friday, we got to help hand out hundreds of books to students at Lakeview Elementary School in Antioch.
Every student got three free books - picked out just for them by their teachers.
"It provides equity for them to have great books. It levels the playing field to have great books in their homes, to become lifelong readers. It's very important," said Principal Dr. Shantrell Pirtle.
Our goal is to continue giving out books this spring. If you'd like to help, click here to make a tax deductible donation.
