LINDEN, N.J. – A high school football player in New Jersey has reportedly been suspended after he bashed an opponent in the head with a helmet during a game.

CBS New York reports that Fritz Moncion, a Linden High School football player, was suspended following the incident Friday night.

Video showed him tangling on the field with a player from Immaculata.

At some point, Moncion ended up with David Hoffman’s helmet in his hands. He was seen on video swinging the helmet and hitting Hoffman in the head before throwing it away.

Hoffman, a junior at Immaculata, had to have 10 stitches to close the wound to his head.

Although Linden high has not commented on what discipline Moncion would face, he did say via Instagram that he’d been suspended "10 days from school and off the team for now." But, "it wasn't purposely though."

Immaculata sent the video to police who told CBS they're reviewing the incident for possible charges.
