NASHVILLE, Tenn. – A director of a non-profit care group in Franklin County was arrested for mishandling a resident’s medication.

Officials with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigations Medicaid Fraud Control Unit received indictments for 48-year-old, Barbara Ann Matthews.

Matthews is the Director of Residential Operations for New Life in Winchester.

Investigators said that they found out Matthews failed to give prescription hydrocodone to a resident in her care because she lost the medication, and failed to follow the medication management policy.

They said that instead of finding the hydrocodone, Matthews dispensed an unverified prescription narcotic to the patient in its place.

The Franklin county Grand Jury returned indictments for Matthews Tuesday, charging her with one count of Neglect of an Impaired Adult, one count of Felony Delivery of a Schedule III Narcotic, and one count of Casual Exchange.

She was then arrested Wednesday and booked into the Franklin County jail. She was released after posting her $5,000 bond, leaving her status with the company unknown.
