NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — When a Tennessee teenager faced the reality of missing her senior prom due to an emergency appendectomy, her surgeon and nurses stepped in to help.

Melonie Martin shared the touching story on her Facebook page, racking up thousands of shares in less than a week.

Her daughter, Mackenzie, had to have an emergency appendectomy on Saturday – the day of her senior prom. After seeing how upset she was, her surgeon at Sumner Regional Medical Center rearranged his schedule to give her more time to recuperate.

By 4 p.m. that day, she was cleared for discharge but there was another hang up: her sister, who was supposed to do her hair and makeup, couldn’t get off from work.

So Mackenzie’s nurses came to the rescue.

“Mackenzie’s nurse said she could curl her hair for her [and] knew another nurse that could do her makeup. So I ran home got all her stuff and they started the process, she wanted a certain twist in her hair, her nurse said couldn’t do that but knew a nurse who used to be a hairstylist so she called her, this nurse dropped everything she was doing to come and help my daughter do the fancy twist she wanted in her hair,” her mother wrote on Facebook.
