The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is investigating an officer-involved shooting on an exit ramp along Interstate 40 West in Wilson County.

It happened at the mile marker 229 exit ramp near Beckwith Road around 3 p.m. Monday.

The shooting was the result of a police chase which started in Lebanon and ended in a crash off Beckwith Road in Mt. Juliet.

Officials said a Lebanon Police Officer chased a 24-year-old Christian Andrew Whitten Galindo, who was driving a reported stolen vehicle taken from a Lebanon business.

Galindo got off I-40 at Beckwith Road and went off the road into an embankment. At that point, the officer and suspect both got out of their vehicles.

After some kind of encounter, the officer then fired a shot that hit Galindo, who was then taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

It was unclear what prompted the shooting or how many shots were fired. Galindo suffered non life-threatening injuries.

The officer was not injured in the shooting. The TBI took over the investigation and was interviewing witnesses.  The Beckwith Road exit ramp was closed for several hours.

Police told NewsChannel 5 that their was no indication the chase was connected to other crimes in Mt. Juliet Monday morning.
