Officials said police in East Tennessee shot a man as they were trying to take him into custody on multiple warrants.
The Morristown Police Department said in a statement that officers saw a man wanted on several warrants sitting in a car Thursday morning and attempted to arrest him.
The statement said he tried to escape by ramming officers' vehicles with his own. An officer fired at him, striking him. He was taken to the University of Tennessee Medical Center where he died.
Morristown Police Department Assistant Chief Michelle Jones said no officers were injured. Also uninjured was a female passenger in the man’s vehicle.
Tennessee Bureau of Investigation officials said the investigation remained ongoing.
