An officer was shot and killed while on the job in East Tennessee.
According to Local 8 News in Knoxville the officer, identified as 32-year-old Kenny Moats, died as a result of his injuries, and a suspect was arrested following the incident.
Local 8 News said Moats had been working with the Maryville Police Department since February 2007, being assigned as a motor officer for traffic in June 2010 and as a drug enforcement agent with the Fifth Judicial Drug Task Force in May 2016.
They added he graduated Walters State Police Academy in December 2005.
Investigators confirmed with Local 8 News that the shooting happened outside on the corner of Alcoa Trail and Kerrway Lane in Blount County.
He was rushed to the University of Tennessee Medical Center where he later died. Officials said the bullet that killed him hit his neck just about his bullet-proof vest.
According to Local 8 News, 44-year-old Brian Keith Stalons had started shooting from his father's garage. He was taken into custody following the shooting.
