NASHVILLE, Tenn. – An early morning house fire that destroyed a home in Bordeaux is being investigated as suspicious.
Officials with the Nashville Fire Department said the fire broke out inside an abandoned home located on Mexico Drive early Sunday morning.
The Fire Marshal was called to the scene for further investigation and said the case is mostly likely the result of arson.
Investigators said someone may have poured gasoline throughout the house before setting it on fire. No one was injured in the blaze.
"It was terrible," said neighbor Dorthea Williams. "It was like a forest fire or something just up in flames."
According to neighbors, the home was abandoned about a week ago. The front door was reportedly left open and the inside of the home was completely trashed.
Officials on the scene confirmed a mother and son living in the home got into an altercation three weeks ago. The son was apparently charged with assault in the alleged incident.
The identity of the residents was not known.
The blaze later rekindled but was quickly extinguished by fire crews.
