NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — Police say a Nashville man has been charged with vehicular homicide after a crash that killed one and injured five, including two children.

Metro Nashville police say the crash happened just after midnight Saturday on Haywood Lane when 25-year-old Robert McMutuary crossed the double yellow line and hit another car head-on.

One of his passengers, 62-year-old Edward Wilkins, died at the scene.

McMutuary, his front seat passenger – 29-year-old Derrica Johnson – and two children – ages five and 23 months – were all transported for non-life threatening injuries. Police said neither child was in a child safety seat.

Police said the other driver and his passenger were also both transported for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

According to officers, McMutuary had a strong odor of alcohol on his breath.

Once he’s released from the hospital, police say he will be charged with five counts of vehicular assault, two counts of aggravated child abuse, driving without a license and no proof of insurance.

Editor's note: A previous version of this story erroneously identified the vehicles as a Jeep and semi. That has been corrected.
