NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — A mother has died and her infant son is in the hospital with serious injuries after a head-on crash Thursday.

The crash happened in the 4500 block of Clarksville Pike between two SUVs.

Metro Police say 23-year-old Sydney Cook died in the crash. Cook, who police say is also known as Sydney Cross, was from Kingston Springs.

Cook's three-month-old son was in a child seat in the back of the Chevrolet TrailBlazer Cook was driving. The infant was taken to Vanderbilt Children's Hospital with serious injuries.

The driver of the other vehicle was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Police say Cook was going south on Clarksville Pike when she crossed the center line and hit the other SUV head on.

Cook was not wearing her seat belt. The driver of the other vehicle was wearing their seat belt.

MNPD found prescription medication in Cook's vehicle. Toxicology testing will performed by the Medical Examiner.
