MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WTVF) — Murfreesboro police say a man was shot and killed in his apartment Thursday night during an apparent robbery. The gunman remains at large.

Officers responded to the shooting around 9:08 p.m. at Northfield Commons on Willowbrook Drive. Police say 24-year-old Mario Santiago Dominguez was killed after he was shot once in the chest.

The preliminary investigation reveals that his roommate was talking on the phone outside the apartment when a man tried to rob him. Police say he went inside, and the suspect banged on the door and tried to get into the apartment.

At some point, the suspect fired a shot through the front door. Dominguez was standing on the other side of the door and was hit by the bullet.

The suspect fled the scene before officers arrived.
