Police were called out to investigate the circumstances that lead to a bizarre shooting on the north side of Nashville.
The shooting happened Tuesday afternoon at the Bargain Lot car dealership on the corner of Fern Avenue and Dickerson Pike.
Witnesses said the dealership owner and some friends were standing on the porch of his business when a man approached on foot, introduced himself and said he wanted to buy a car.
Because of the pouring rain, the owner and his friends decided to wait until the rain stopped.
The suspect apparently was not satisfied with the answer, and reportedly shot one of the men before taking off on foot up Fern Avenue.
The victim was identified as 44-year-old James Ensley. He suffered injuries to his stomach, neck and shoulder.
Several of the vehicles at the dealership sustained damage from the gunfire.
Witnesses said Ensley had several bullet wounds, but was coherent and talking. He told the other people at the scene that he had never met the suspect.
Ensley was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center and was listed in stable condition. He was expected to make a full recovery
Officers from the Metro Nashville Police Department were called to the scene but were unable to locate the suspect.
Anyone with information about the incident should call Crime Stoppers at 615-74-CRIME (615-742-7463).
