NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — Lori Widmar, of Hartford Kentucky, received a kidney transplant last year, at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

She received the transplant when 22-year-old Brooklyn Bender of South Dakota died in a car accident, late in 2018. Her kidneys were a perfect match for Lori, and now Lori is here today because of Brooklyn.

Lori got to keep up her hobby of sewing, including making more than 100 face masks for the staff of the Kidney Transplant Program at Vanderbilt.

"To bring them masks at this time was just so meaningful," Widmar said.

Brooklyn’s family knew she wanted to be an organ donor because she had an earlier conversation with her parents about it. If you’d like more information on how to become an organ donor, tap on this link.
