Two Middle Tennessee organizations have teamed up to make sure Nashville's senior citizens have enough food leading up to Christmas.
For the 16th year in a row, volunteers with The Rotary Club of Nashville and Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee packed up food boxes to deliver right before the holiday.
Saturday morning, they packed up 1,900 packages, which was 300 more than 2016.
What that meant was they'll be able to deliver food to even more elderly and disabled residents in the Watkins Park community in Nashville.
“It’s amazing to deliver the food to these families and see the impact on their faces,” said Yvette White, Rotary Club of Nashville President. “These are families that otherwise might not have this kind of a boost before Christmas.”
The Rotary Club has worked with Metro's Development and Housing Agency in order to identify who needs the food packages the most.
